When you’re playing head to head with a weak player, if he has position on you, and you have mediocre cards, it’s best to fold. You probably won’t be able to blush him out, and you won’t win with the best hand. So what’s the use of staying in? Save your big bets for the times you have the real goods, and then sock it to him.
In situations in which I suspect other poker players of bluffing, I look for mannerisms or gestures that give away their bluff. These are known as “tells.”
Are their hands shaking when they put iris the big beep Have their voices changed? Are they swallowing hard? Are they very nervous, very anxious? I watch them carefully for any tell.
