Poker Flat pulls in the reigns once again with the 8th installment of their ongoing compilation and mix series. This eight-times-tremendous double pack comes with 10 unmissable, unmixed tracks on CD 1 celebrating the best of the recent catalogue – including hot new exclusives from Steve Bug, Patrick Chardronnet and D‘Julz. On the bonus-CD Jay Tripwire delivers a scintillating mix featuring 2 more exclusives – from Donnacha Costello and Tripwire himself with Katherine Larr respectively – and segues together a whole host of other recent Poker Flat essentials.
CD1: Being the boss it’s only fair he kicks things off, as Steve Bug‘s ‚A Shot In The Dark‘ begins the fun. Of course it’s a high-class trippy affair full of classic Bug shenanigans. The quality level maintains at a peak then throughout, with early highlights like Patrick Chardronnet‘s dramatic and summery ‚Birds On Strings‘ raising the tension.
Joris Voorn‘s super crisp remix [...]

Never have a witnessed a bigger rail for an empty stack

A bit of sad news to report on Sunday July 25th 2010 my bar league lost one of its most loved players. Sudhir Ahuja suffered a major heart attack at a Riverchasers event at the poker table. While my experience with Sudhir is very limited I only had the honor of playing with him a hand full of times I can say that my time spent at the tables with him was better because he was there. He played his own brand of poker and he was nearly an impossible read. He could have the stone cold nuts or stone cold air you could never be 100% sure on that. What you could be sure of is a huge smile and a genuine love for the game. He never got upset and always would engage in friendly banter. He will be greatly missed.
            Yesterday july 28th I went to [...]

As your poker career advances, you'll find yourself playing increasingly long hours at the poker table. Staying focused and remaining comfortable becomes just as challenging as the game itself.
Playing Texas Holdem for eight hours' or often times much MORE can definitely be a physical and mental drain. So prepare your body for it, just as you would any other sport. If you don't feel good, you play good. That is all there is to it.
Personally, I prefer lots of exercise as a way to prepare myself for long hours at the card table. Getting that endorphin kick from a good run or session of weight lifting will increase my mental acuity as well as keep my body comfortable at the table. Exercise also serves as my 'meditation' session. I go over my game plan and overall strategy as I workout. This is very [...]

Poker: The cash game

Poker cash games can be fun. It can also be profitable if you have the patience. Sometimes it can get on your nerves when you come across people who won’t fold their crappy hands and call you all the way to the river and beat out your hand! This has happened to me on a couple of occasions. The most recent account of this was when I had a pair of queens and raised $20 pre-flop. My intention was to force the other nine players to fold and I’ll just collect the ante ( three dollars ). So everyone folds except this guy who had a three-five unsuited. The flop comes out Jack(clubs)-six(diamonds)-four(hearts). I’m still on top with my queens because my queens can be Jacks (unless he had pocket pairs and made a set, which I doubted). I raise another $20 and was feeling confident that this guy is [...]

Balls to bluff

It’s on very few occasions that you find yourself asking yourself the question, “Why am I in this hand?” Most of the time, when you aren’t really trying to bet the best hand, or find out where you stand, you’re bluffing. Bluffing i.e. trying to get the other person off the best hand. I rarely bluff, well I try to vary my play depending on the situation. One such opportunity presented itself lately and I took full advantage of it. The dialogue in between the hand and the overall quality of the way I played was very satisfying for me.
The game is 25c/50c No limit Hold Em. I have about $30 in front of me while my counterpart (Joe) has about $40. He raised to $1.75 from middle-position and I called with As 10s with the dealer (button). The pot is around $4. Flop is Qd 10h 7s. Joe bets [...]

What is up with this dude? Why is it that after having a good night with drinks and friends, does he still feel the need to have more drinks until he almost cant speak and is walking (if thats what you want to call it) like a newborn. I feel so bad for him. maybe he did quite gambling and took up drinking? He’s really going to hate life tomorrow when he wakes up. I wonder if he will remember telling the host upstairs at the Gold Lounge that he wanted a cabana poolside for us and some friends. I dont know what the host saw as Kasey told him his name but by the responsiveness of kasey’s request and then an offer to comp his room and other charges… I was now certain I needed to find out what I had gotten myself into???
