Face the Ace Drama comes to an End

After going back and forth on the lawsuit against Poker PROductions from Brandon McSmith in the Eighth District court in Nevada; it seems that it finally came to an end. This Monday the lawsuit was dismissed by Judge Michelle Leavitt.
McSmith can now appeal or ask for the intervention of the Federal court. McSmith said to Poker News Daily he was disappointed with the decision and he hopes his appeal will be successful: “Judge Michelle Leavitt dismissed the case on the basis that I didn’t state a claim. Leavitt has her fair share of appeals that have gone against her.”
FBI was investigating McSmith’s lawsuit were he claims they used his idea for the NBC poker game show “Face the Ace”. “This week, the FBI got in touch with me twice and asked for all of the information. They’ll be launching an investigation of the copyright infringement charges”, McSmith said to Poker News [...]

Bring on Series V

Here’s a quick excerpt
Tonight we start Series V of the poker club that I run.
Last series I came 3rd which was very pleasing but as some of you may have read I missed out on 2nd place by just 8 points which I’m still annoyed about.
So whats my plan for series V? Up to now I’ve played conservatively and the main problem is when I do play a hand they usually pick up the fact that I do have a ‘decent’ set of cards so I’m going to mix it up for this series. I’m going to play a few hands that maybe I shouldn’t (as long as it’s not too expensive) early on just so that I keep them guessing. It may back fire but I need to do something different thats for sure.
Having only ever won 1 match total is still really depressing as when I used to play somewhere else [...]

Whiny poker players

Willy J wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt
Some poker players are pretty whiny – not to mention abusive – when they lose.
It’s not all poker players; it’s probably not even a majority of poker players.  But some days, it seems like everyone who loses a hand just explodes with profanity, or invective directed at the online poker institution they’re playing on, or expletive-laced explanations of why you’re the biggest donkey this side of Phil Hellmuth.*  Or all three.
I think the funniest whiners are the ones who don’t really understand what makes a donkey.** If you slowplay pocket kings, letting me limp with 45 suited, and the flop comes 236, and you stubbornly bet into me all the way to the river because you’re convinced a donkey like me can’t have aces, ignoring my constant reraises, disregarding my “agonizing” pauses as an inverse sign of strength, and peppering your comments with stock poker wisdom in a futile attempt [...]

Countdown to the Tournament

I am a card player. I love to play poker. I would never claim to be a Card Shark, maybe a minnow. Things have come together for me to take the first step to becoming a ‘Professional’ poker player. My current job (which I love) has afforded me the time off I need to begin this endeavor (it’s only 2 days as of right now.) and my Dad has been generous enough to ‘buy me in’ to this first step, a World Series of Poker satelite event.  Look for more Blogs in this category as I endeavor to become a Professional Poker player. I don’t know where this endeavor will take me but you can follow me right here, and of course, on FB and Twitter. This is my first REAL tournament. ( I have played in somel small time local level non-sponsored cash games and tournaments.) The tournament is [...]

Monday March 15th - Poker

Willy J wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt
I’ve been playing a lot of poker recently.
It’s something i have been becoming increasingly good at doing. I guess that my years of just sitting and observing people have made me abnormally good at perceiving other players thoughts and hands. And I’ve came to realize that playing poker is quite possibly my ideal career path. At least of all the paths I have discovered so far.  I mean the last time i found something i enjoy doing for two to four hours at a time was world of warcraft.
It’s kinda funny too because a while ago one of the career paths i was researching was day trading.   I found it interesting how the object of that “game” was shifting the order out of chaos.  That within this near random string of numbers a day traders goal had to be able to see the patterns and exploit it to earn an [...]

How I Raised, Folded, Bluffed, Flirted, Cursed, and Won Millions-and You Can Too

Willy J wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt
I finished this paperback in one sitting. Now, I do watch poker on television and play some myself, if this were not true, I don’t think I would have enjoyed this book. Part biography and part chronicle of Annie’s first WSOP bracelet win, knowing the central characters such as Howard “the Professor” Lederer or Mike “the Mouth” Matusow, really helps the narrative come to life. I found it very interesting to learn about Annie’s life leading up to poker. So many are coming to the game through online experience now, and mostly men, however, Annie really persevered against the odds.
She writes in a conversational tone, you feel as though she’s sitting in front of you. Her tips and explanations of common poker knowledge to make this book accessible to non players, but I think it will still be less interesting for them. She provides [...]

Dreamer or Visionary

Willy J wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt

A person that is classified as a dreamer is thought to have grandiose and totally unrealistic ideals. A visionary is one with the wisdom and forethought to clearly see the appropriate path to a future goal.
As I lay awake at night thinking about poker, I wonder if I am a dreamer or a visionary. I am sure the answer lies somewhere in the middle. The vision I had of embarking on a writing career and eventually getting a poker column and, ultimately, a book deal is well under way. The dream of winning the main event of the World Series of Poker seems quite a stretch at this point in my career.
I have always felt that the body can not go where the mind has never been. I totally believe that to accomplish great things you must first conquer the task in your mind before your body will ever believe [...]
